The Economics of Sex and MGTOW
A series of links lead me to this video,
In my view, everything we do is a form of economic transaction, meaning we trade our time or money for something we want. Here are three examples:
Was the trade a good one? That is the same as asking if the cost was worth the benefit. This brings me to Men Going Their Own Way:
Is marriage worth the cost under today's laws and social customs?
Is dating worth its cost?
Are you better off spending your time working out and enjoying a hobby, or going club hopping?
Which costs less time and money and provides a greater benefit in the form of getting laid, (1) club hopping, or (2) hiring a high quality escort?
We live in a world where men are literally robbed by the courts because a wife or girlfriend decided to use the legal system against them. Is the risk (which is a form of cost) worth the benefit of female companionship?
Whatever choices you make in your life, I hope the cost/benefit ratio always comes out in your favor.

MGTOW Philosophy - Some Questions - No Answers - Part 2.
What does it mean for Men to Go Their Own Way?
These three videos on ancient Greek philosophy have some good suggestions toward the answer to that question. They will take less than half an hour to watch. There are thousands more videos where these came from.
Stoicism: Many MGTOWs are Stoics, but don't know it. Here's
a two part video that sums it up nicely:
(1) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-RJQdjN4Ag
(2) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5tarWq1yiSw
I am mostly a Stoic, with large dollops of Cynicism and Epicureanism mixed in.
Cynicism: This school of philosophy is an extreme form of MGTOW. Here's an 8 minute video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkdcvzchXKw
I can't really call myself a Cynic, mainly because I don't have the gumption to go as far as Diogenes did. I'm all for a milder version of this philosophy, one that involves things like eating a proper diet, living inside houses, and wearing warm clothes in winter.
Epicureanism: Three Minute Philosophy: Epicurus and Zeno https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2r1KaB15ck

Mindfulness Training
The more you are free to think
for yourself, the more able you will be able

Search your favorite bookstores and hunt the internet for:

INTIMIDATION
Start today to
build this wise attitude in your mind and spirit. When someone acts
like an idiot in an attempt to intimidate you, silently ask him, "Who
are you trying to kid?"
In this way you first inform yourself that you will no longer
submit to anyone's tyranny. And it will express itself outwardly
in your speech and manner, sending a warning message to the of-
fender. He will get the message, and you will end intimidation.

MGTOW Philosophy - Some Questions - No Answers - Part 1.
What does it mean for Men to Go Their Own Way?
How do we deal with the realities of today's world and remain true to ourselves?
What does it mean for a man (or woman) living in today's world to live an ethical life?
What does it mean to live a moral life in today's world?
In short, what does it mean to live as a complete human being; what does it mean to Go Our Own Way?
Is there even a single pat answer to this question? (That would simplify things, wouldn't it.)
Philosophers (and charlatans) have spilled tons of ink writing about this. I have some favorite picks, some of whom contradict others. (So it goes - it's been proven that philosophy cannot be logical.)
Here is a starter list (all of these have thousands of videos dedicated to them on YouTube):

- The Cynics (the school of philosophy, not the grumps who bad
mouth everyone) Diogenes is the best known Cynic. This is the school
that best describes today's MGTOW.
- Epicurus (my go-to guy for the philosophy school named after
him.) He was charged with atheism, immorality, and disrupting the
social order. He invented "laid back" as a formalized way
of life - no marriage, no children, no performing social duties,
just free men, women, courtesans of both sexes, and slaves hanging
out and getting along without conflict. Far out man!
- Epictetus (my go-to guy for Stoic philosophy)
- Marcus Aurelius (Roman Emperor and Stoic philosopher)
- Plato (when it comes to Western philosophers, there is Plato
and then all the others)
- Aristotle
- Socrates
- The Bible - read up on the Ten Commandments and The Sermon on

Where Have All The Good Men Gone?
A friend prompted me to search YouTube for "where have all the good men gone." "About 332,000 results" turned up. Those I sampled (which wasn't many) have a common theme: It's all some man's fault that some woman has problems in her life.
Not one of those women thought of looking to themselves for the source of their personal problems.

I go to a lot of trouble to avoid GMO foods - also food additives and preservatives. This rules out most junk food, which is a good thing. It means shopping carefully, but stories like this keep me going.
Of course, it is not possible to completely avoid that crap. One does one's best and muddles along.

Cooking gets honorable mention.
MGTOW Cooking - Part 2.
Part 1 was posted Friday, August 15, 2014.
The doctors call it "24 hour bug." I used to get it a few times a year. Not anymore - I haven't had a case in six years.
I used to eat in restaurants 7 days a week. Because of a change in my circumstances (living too far from town for a while), I started cooking for myself. My cases of "24 hour bug" stopped happening. It took a while to connect all the dots, but when I did, I stopped going to restaurants, except on special occasions with family or friends. No more casual grab-a-meal dining.
I looked up "cooking" on YouTube and got "About 7,680,000 results." Whatever you can think of, and a million things you haven't, it's in there somewhere.
Check it out:
https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=cooking
I cook from scratch. I cook fancy frozen entrees from the upscale supermarkets. I cook from cans and packages stowed away in my pantry. The fridge is full of leftovers waiting for those days when cooking from scratch isn't convenient.
Cooking for yourself saves time and money, and it provides satisfaction. Win-win.

Economics of MGTOW
Recently a friend emailed this to me:
This is my reply:
Apparently it has gotten so bad
in the dating/marriage industry that women know that it's going on.
But because of their feminist group think they won't change any of
the laws (women are like a Union, as Robert DiNiro said in "Taxi
Driver").
MGTOW will start to hit the
economy. As I told Sandman let's say a 30 year old guy goes MGTOW.
Guess who losses:
1. Car dealers. He does not need to
buy a BMW to impress a women, he can drive an old car
2. Dating coaches
3. Clothing stores (doesn't need
expensive clothes, except to meet the workplace dress code).
4. All the merchants who benefit from
Valentine's Day [My friend omitted birthdays, anniversaries, Xmas,
New Years, all those other occasions we buy crap for. -WM]
5. The marriage and honeymoon industry
(engagement rings, wedding rings, reception, honeymoon) (Maybe
$25,000 right there, maybe more)
6. The industries that make stuff for
kids
7. Finally, the divorce industry
(lawyers, counselors, the need for 2 homes etc).
Just those 7 items alone from one guy
going MGTOW probably takes $400,000 or more out of the consumer
economy and put it in the man's pocket. I think that is why MGTOW
worries society. What do you think?
You are right about the economic
impact of course. I don't think that's what worries most feminists.
After all, the ones who put themselves on YouTube don't seem capable
of simple arithmetic, let alone economic analysis. Frankly, I'm
surprised they can tie their own shoes and not make messes in
people's houses.
I think they are worried about a large
group that has gotten out from under the feminist thumb. These
feminists are people who are doing a piss poor job of running their
own lives, so they devote themselves to running ours. Too bad for
them, we aren't sitting still for that.

Bachelor Pad Economics - a book review.
Bachelor Pad Economics by Aaron Clarey.

Other

The Amazon blurb says:
“Bachelor Pad Economics” is THE
financial advice bible for men…and any women who are bold enough to
read it!
Good Advice.
The book is an encyclopedia of economic advice. Up until now, we had to learn these things the hard way - by making stupid mistakes and losing money and time. Some of us suffered serious harm because we didn't have the information in this book.
The book is over 500 pages long with 15 chapters and an extensive list of resources. There is too much to cover in detail, so I'm focusing on three topics close to my heart. (You will find the Table of Contents at the end.)
First, read the introduction, How to Read this Book, and then read Chapter 3 - Philosophy. After that, skip around as necessity and interest guide you.
Education. Chapter 4. A college education can, and probably will, leave you broke, with debts you cannot escape, and - worst of all - no job prospects. There are ways to get a college education without being shackled to the banks. There are jobs that do not require degrees, jobs which pay better than those that do.
Do you have a white collar office job? The guy who fixes your car makes more than your boss, and Mr. Mechanic didn't rack up a ton of college loan debt getting there.
Girls. Chapter 7. No matter how you cut it, men have a relationship of some sort with women. We all have a mother, no exceptions. If you are a hermit, your relationship is abstinence. If you are a pick up artist, you're heavily involved. A MGTOW can be anywhere between these extremes.
The question addressed in the book is: How does it affect you economically? A hermit has it lots cheaper than a club hopping PUA. Both have a better shot at financial solvency than a married man with children heading toward the inevitable divorce.
If you decide to go PUA, this chapter has all the how-to info you need - not what you'd expect in a book with "Economics" in the title.
[A personal aside: I wouldn’t want the PUA's chances for catching an incurable disease - or getting brought up on false rape charges. I'm not sure getting laid is worth an STD. In fact, I’ve tried it both ways, more than once, and I prefer disease-free. Likewise, I'd prefer to live a long and peaceful life without defending myself in court. -WM]
Housing and transportation. Chapters 8 & 9. For most people, our biggest expenses (before retirement) will be paying for where we live and our cars. In here you'll learn how to live and drive without getting skinned alive.
Retirement. Chapter 15 - End of Life Planning. The day may come when you are too old to work, or just plain sick and tired of it. You need to support yourself. Maybe you want to "retire" young (I did). How are you going to do it?
By the way, if you spend the last year of your life in a hospital bed stuck full of tubes, then this will cost you more than most people's houses. Your widow and orphaned children will be left with a mountain of your debts, and your last memories will be of a living hell.
My recommendation: Buy Bachelor Pad Economics.
Consult this book before doing anything important.

MGTOW Books & Movies Page Updated
I've added some new entries to the Books & Movies Page.
Guns & MGTOW
This ain't right!
National Guard to Soldiers At Border: No Personal Weapons, Even Off-Duty
Self-defense, target shooting, hunting - all these are sports men
can enjoy here in the good ol' USA. Well, that's the theory anyway.
The National Rifle Association, or NRA, is a
single-issue organization: Our rights as defined by the Second
Amendment of the Constitution. You don't need to join or send money
to benefit from what they put on the web:
What's this got to do with MGTOW?
The feminists don't approve. That's enough for me. On a postitive note, shooting is a fun thing to do.
Shooting is an excellent form of recreation for those so inclined. It can be therapy too. For example, Adm. Chester A. Nimitz shot his .45 every morning during WWII. His doctor prescribed it to cure a case of "nerves," and it worked. (He had a lot on his mind and a heavy workload, and going Galt wasn't an option.)
Fun fact: Two million felonies are stopped - with no shots fired - every year by armed citizens in the USA. Would you rather stop it before it starts, or be a helpless victim?
Life is not a TV show: The brilliant (and improbably good looking) TV detective is not going to kick your door open and apprehend the bad guy before he has his way with you. You need to fend for yourself. The cops will show up later and write a report. Good luck if all you have is your bare hands in the meantime.
National Guard to Soldiers At Border: No Personal Weapons, Even Off-Duty
The National Guard personnel should be
encouraged to be armed, lawfully, at all times. They should not be
made into targets. That's my opinion, and I'm entitled to it under the Constitution!

If you do find a perfect NAWALT angel, will she stay that way? No, probably not. More likely, she will turn out to be a normal human female like all the others. The odds are against you.
Wedlock - Benjamin Franklin, Poor Richard's
Almanack. May, 1734.
Wedlock, as old men note, hath likened been,
Unto a public crowd or common rout;
Where those that are without would fain get in,
And those that are within, would fain get out.
Grief often treads upon the heels of pleasure,
Marry'd in haste, we oft repent at leisure;
Some by experience find these words missplaced,
Marry'd at leisure, they repent in haste.

News of the Weird
Knowledge will set you free. (Well, it's a necessary start.)
Don't be a sucker. The world is a dangerous place and there
are lots of people who will use your fully justified fear to bend you
to doing their bidding. It is a classic ploy and it always works on
the masses. There is no need for you to join the obedient herd - and
it's a very bad idea. You need to find alternate sources if you're
going to counteract the effects of propaganda.
"There are more things in heaven
and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy." -
Hamlet Act 1, scene 5.
- Find news from sources overseas. Compare them to the
mainstream US sources. You'll be surprised how different their
reporting on the same story can be. By the way, all the major news
outlets in the USA are controlled by five corporations. I mean TV,
newspaper, radio, and even Hollywood movies - food for thought.
- Before you jump on the UFO bandwagon, see Mirage
Men, a must-see documentary:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mirage_Men
- Are you a night owl? (I am.) Tune your radio to Coast To
Coast AM. http://www.coasttocoastam.com/
(Where I live, reception is lousy. If the show is interesting, I
can always find it on the internet. If not, on goes the music
station.)
- Earthfiles is another site to visit. The host is a
regular guest on Coast To Coast AM.

Eat Right or Die!
Painful Memory
I was just now reminded of a painful event in my past. I had a friend with diabetes. For some reason known only to him, he just had to, had to, eat fast food for lunch every day. Packing his own lunch (prepared according to diabetic-friendly guidelines) was simply not an option. Never mind that thousands of workers in our town must have been packing their own. He would pitch a fit at the idea of giving up his fast food. Needless to say, his logic escaped me at the time.
He came to a very bad end. The diabetes crippled him. He died young.
The Chef's Salad Diet
Another story comes to mind. I was out to dinner with a group of friends. There were eight of us at the table. One of the ladies present looked up from her plate and asked me,
"How can you eat so much and stay so skinny?"
I was the only person there who was not frankly obese. Two of them had diabetes and one had heart problems. The answer to her question was on the plates in front of us for all to see.
Yes, my plate was heaped higher than anyone's. It was a chef's salad.
All the others had some variation of fried starch.
Coincidence? You decide.
Books for people trying to lick diabetes, heart problems, or just plain trying to lose weight - I personally know people who have done very well with the programs outlined in these books. You will also find websites, YouTube videos, and DVDs based on the authors' works.
1. For meat eaters, this is the premier book for those trying to survive diabetes.
2. For arch-vegetarians, no meat or dairy to be found, but it
works just as well as Bernstein's - I've seen it.
3. This one splits the difference between all meat and all plants. As with the others, I've seen it work.

MGTOW Quote of the Day
Take responsibility for your own life and actions, and remember that taking responsibility of yourself requires giving up responsibility on others. The ultimate form of narcissism is martyrdom in which a person sacrifices himself for everyone else and then complains why no one helps him. As the Greeks put it, “Gods help those, who help themselves.” Live your life to yourself and focus on your mission. Then suddenly others will help you—because by helping you will they help themselves, as they too are living their lives for themselves.

The
more money you spend on trivia, the less you will have for things
that matter. Do you like beer, cigars, motorcycles, bar hopping, PUA-ing, any of life's little luxuries? That money's gotta come from somewhere!
How to Live Cheaply - Wikihow http://www.wikihow.com/Live-Cheaply
No worries! The sports news will be on the internet, broadcast TV, and radio. So will the regular news and weather. Cut the cable. It's a ripoff.
Good blog:
Learn about economics from an expert:
How to Live Cheaply - Wikihow http://www.wikihow.com/Live-Cheaply
- Cook for yourself.
- Move to inexpensive housing.
- Move to an area with low cost of living.
- Save on bills.
- Have fun for less money
- Prioritize - make good choices
Cut Your Cable!
Cable TV is costing
you money (of course), costing you time (something you can never get
back), and causing depression in many people (maybe you). You can
always get DVDs or download shows you really love, and it will be
cheaper and free of commercials.

Fun Project: For a real eye opener, hunt YouTube and blogs for cable horror stories. First they pick your pocket, then they heap abuse on you. Don't be a sucker.

Indispensible MGTOW Books
The books of Captain Capitalism - get them all. Read them, and
pay attention. You can't get better advice on the practical details
of life in today's USA. I read his blog every day, and you should
too.
(Do not dig up reading list from a college course in English Literature. Go wash your car, your time will be better spent.)

Mass shootings, suicides, and psychoactive drugs.
If you want to go your own way,
then you do not want to be dependent on drugs. That is, drugs you
don't need to further your health. This is a tricky topic,
because in the USA only MDs may prescribe medication or take patients
off medication. There is no law forbidding patients to research
their medication (not yet), so you should read up on anything and
everything you are taking and consult your MD regarding your
findings.
School / shopping mall / post office shooting.
So many of those mass killers were taking some selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors drug (SSRI) that it's almost impossible to find exceptions. If you are taking one of those drugs or know someone who is, then study the subject. Here is one of 30 thousand sites I found on my first search:

Self Defense for MGTOW or Anybody
The ability to stay alive and relatively undamaged could come in
handy in a tight pinch. (Obviously!) Self defense class can be an
excellent fitness program all by itself - a major plus. These are
things best learned from experts. Find a good class in one or more
of:
Generally speaking, surviving is a good idea:
- Karate
- Boxing (the Western kind)
- Jiujitsu or Judo or Aikido
- Wrestling (the Western kind)
- Krav Maga, Mixed Martial Arts, SEAL unarmed combat, whatever
form of mayhem might be taught in your immediate area
- Shooting: rifle, pistol, shotgun. A scrawny 12 year old kid
with a gun can defeat a 240 pound professional criminal, and so can
a frail old lady - food for thought.
- Archery: This is all the rage since those 'hunger games'
movies came out. Crossbows look like lots of fun to me, and they
are lots easier to learn to use than the longbow.

Internet Self Defense
Be you MGTOW or not, you need to protect yourself. You need an anit-malware suite of programs for your computer, tablet and smartphone. These break down into
1. Subscribe to Kim Komando's email updates. http://www.komando.com/ This is the best source I have found for alerts about internet scams, free software, and items of general interest. She tests and verifies everything, so you and I don't get ripped off. Her radio show is excellent. If you can find it in your area, then make a point of listening. The stations and times are listed on her site.
2. Anti-malware programs for your computer, tablet, and smartphone. As Kim Komando will tell you, you must, must, have software that prevents viruses, and all other attacks on your digital devices. Kim recommends some that are free of charge. (I have used her recommendations and can vouch for them.)
3. White Pages. http://www.whitepages.com/ Is there a phone call from a number you don't recognize? Do not answer! Do not call back! First, look it up on White Pages (or a similar service) and find out if it's a con artist trying to get your personal information, some other entity acting against your best interests, or just a time waster. I find White Pages the easiest to use. They aren't the only one, just my favorite.
- Firewall software
- Anti-virus software
- Anti-spyware
- Network protection
- Email protection
- A list of protections against other attacks

Men's Rights Movement
Many people say Men Going Their Own Way
(MGTOW) and the Men's Rights Movement (MRM) are different
and distinct. I say they are part of a broad continuum. There is a
lot of overlap. The groups have more in common than differences.
There are a large number of issues facing men and women these days,
and different people will respond differently.
The foremost MRM site is:
Pick Up Artists (PUA) is the third wing of the manosphere, with MGTOW and MRM. I don't have any favorites here, but these are highly thought of:
There are too many to count.
If I try to list all my favorites, I will be at this all day. These sites have links that will lead to many others. Viva La Manosphere is basically all links. New sites and blogs are added every day, and there are too many to keep up with.
A search of the Internet will turn up all manner of sites devoted to some aspect of men's issues, including:

MGTOW Topics
Things for a Man Going His Own Way to think about.
First Rule: If someone says "man up," do not. It's a trap!
Ham Radio
Amateur radio can be the only way to communicate in times of disaster, when the cell towers, land lines, and roads are all out of service. Schtuff-Hits-The-Fan aside, ham radio is a pleasurable and challenging hobby for people from all walks of life. Ham is enjoyed by athletes in prime condition and quadriplegics, the old and the young, and men and women. It can be frugally cheap (under $100) or hideously expensive.
It is a challenge because one has to learn a body of material and pass tests on it. Everything needed is available for free or in book form. One must assemble and make radios work, or buy plug and play equipment. One must master the customs and courtesies of the hobby. Fear not, if you've read this far, you can do it.
Ham Resources
These are merely a good start, and not the only ones by any means. I am using the Amazon link for my convenience. (MGTOW often means finding out things are not easy.) The books are widely available, new and used, from many sources.
Movies
Can you get by for a month or so if a natural disaster cuts off your electricity and roads? Hint: You had better have a first aid kit, a pantry full of canned food, and a shed or garage full of tools.
Can you make a hobo stove to cook the canned food you cleverly stashed in your pantry?
