Texas Concealed Handgun Carriers: Law-abiding Public Benefactors

Captain Capitalism published this on his blog:

Panera Bread Was Always Weak
http://captaincapitalism.blogspot.com/2014/09/panera-bread-was-always-weak.html

I submitted the below to the comments.

This is reason enough for me not to go to Panera, even if I did like their menu.  I don't - not enough food for my dollar and I like my own cooking better anyway.

Texas passed its concealed handgun law largely because of one woman.  (Suzanna Gratia Hupp, DC, <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suzanna_Hupp>)  Her parents were killed when a gunman attacked a crowded restaurant (Luby's, 1991, Killeen, TX).

His victims had no recourse except to cower under their tables and wait for him to walk over and shoot them.  He did just that.  No one was able to shoot back.  He shot people at his leisure until a sheriff arrived.

As the saying goes, when seconds count, the police are minutes away.

The suddenly orphaned young woman mounted a crusade to get the CHL law passed.  The entire state is glad she did. Well, a large majority is glad; it was a big part of why George Bush defeated Gov. Richards in 1994.

We have every reason to be glad, we have a substantially lower crime rate than areas that forbid concealed carry.

Viral Videos: New York prepper shows you how to prepare for a natural disaster http://videos.komando.com/watch/6225/viral-videos-new-york-prepper-shows-you-how-to-prepare-for-a-natural-disaster

I would add this. Fill your pantry with canned and packaged foods with long lifetimes, in case you choose to stay put.

Self Defense for MGTOW or Anybody

The ability to stay alive and relatively undamaged could come in handy in a tight pinch. (Obviously!) Self defense class can be an excellent fitness program all by itself - a major plus. These are things best learned from experts. Find a good class in one or more of:
  • Karate
  • Boxing (the Western kind)
  • Jiujitsu or Judo or Aikido
  • Wrestling (the Western kind)
  • Krav Maga, Mixed Martial Arts, SEAL unarmed combat, whatever form of mayhem might be taught in your immediate area
  • Shooting: rifle, pistol, shotgun. A scrawny 12 year old kid with a gun can defeat a 240 pound professional criminal, and so can a frail old lady - food for thought.
  • Archery: This is all the rage since those 'hunger games' movies came out. Crossbows look like lots of fun to me, and they are lots easier to learn to use than the longbow.
Here is a good article by Return of Kings.

MGTOW Topics
Things for a Man Going His Own Way to think about.
First Rule: If someone says "man up," do not. It's a trap!

Ham Radio
Amateur radio can be the only way to communicate in times of disaster, when the cell towers, land lines, and roads are all out of service. Schtuff-Hits-The-Fan aside, ham radio is a pleasurable and challenging hobby for people from all walks of life. Ham is enjoyed by athletes in prime condition and quadriplegics, the old and the young, and men and women. It can be frugally cheap (under $100) or hideously expensive.
It is a challenge because one has to learn a body of material and pass tests on it. Everything needed is available for free or in book form. One must assemble and make radios work, or buy plug and play equipment. One must master the customs and courtesies of the hobby. Fear not, if you've read this far, you can do it.

Ham Resources
  • The American Radio Relay League (ARRL) is the national association for amateur radio, connecting hams around the U.S. with news, information and resources. http://www.arrl.org/home
  • Gordon West books
  • Countless websites and YouTube videos (look 'em up).
Books
These are merely a good start, and not the only ones by any means. I am using the Amazon link for my convenience. (MGTOW often means finding out things are not easy.) The books are widely available, new and used, from many sources.
Anything by
  • Ann Rand,
  • Robert H. Heinlein,
  • Poul Anderson.
The list goes on.

Movies
  • Lifeguard http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074798/ Rick the career lifeguard is like a hero of Greek myth, he suffers the torments and achieves the triumphs of his choice to be MGTOW despite the pressures to conform put upon him by lesser men and women.
  • If you ever wondered why some men remain single, then watch Susan Silverman's character in School Of Rock http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0332379/ Just because she is drop dead gorgeous doesn't make marriage a good idea.
Websites
Survival

Can you get by for a month or so if a natural disaster cuts off your electricity and roads? Hint: You had better have a first aid kit, a pantry full of canned food, and a shed or garage full of tools.
Can you make a hobo stove to cook the canned food you cleverly stashed in your pantry?
  • Countless websites and YouTube videos (look 'em up).
